Fastrack Yacht Master - Bluewater Academy
|
This is Sail UK’s Fastrack Yachtmaster Programme.
This course will lead you to the level of Offshore Yachtmaster in fourteen weeks capable of going on to work in the industry or simply to enjoy your new found expertise as a Yachtmaster. If you have already achieved part of the Yachtmaster syllabus i.e. Day Skipper level, then we can tailor the course to suit your individual requirements and adjust the cost accordingly.
The course is fourteen weeks long and will include over 2500 miles of quality sailing experiences taking in many ports in the UK and the Continent each with their own demanding tidal or pilotage characteristics. We have designed the course not just to give you the bare minimum required but to give you the valuable sailing experience that a good Yachtmaster should have. We will be running three courses in 2008, starting at the beginning of March, the beginning of May and the beginning of July each with slightly different itinerary.
The March course will concentrate on mileage building around the South coast with trips to the Channel Islands, France, Germany Holland and Denmark.
The May course will build miles sailing around the UK taking in the Orkneys and the Western Islands of Scotland en-route and the July course will build miles heading south along the French, Portuguese, Spanish and Canary Islands coastlines.
This type of coastal and inter island sailing is ideal for practicing pilotage plans, working with tides and passage planning whilst you visit many different ports of call.
But before any of the above trips can be undertaken your sailing skills will be honed on smaller training yachts in and around the Solent and the Port of Poole.
You will be taught navigation theory in our classroom overlooking Poole harbour and then practice your new found skills on the water.
Once Day Skipper level has been attained, your sailing experiences will take on longer passages enabling you to build on your self confidence as well as your sea miles.
At Coastal Skipper completion you will be undertaking night passages across the Channel to France or further afield giving you the real ocean experience. During the latter stages of your course you will be given the opportunity to sail one of our yachts bare boat, that is without an Instructor aboard. As a prospective Yachtmaster this is the final confidence boost needed before taking your exam.
Finally, on your return from the mileage building element of your course you will be instructed in fine tuning your skills aboard a racing boat where your trimming skills will be honed before embarking on your prep week. All the skills of both practical and theory that you have learned will now be practiced yet again so that you are fully prepared for your Yachtmaster exam.
We strongly believe that the challenging and rewarding sailing experience that we offer on this course will allow you to face any situation with confidence.
