Channel crossing Weekend
This course is aimed at building confidence in the skipper wishing to make his first Channel crossing by instructing on passage planning, weather interpretation, and the use of Radar, AIS and Chartplotting as an aid to safely navigating the busy shipping lanes.

The course will begin on Friday evening in Sail UK’s classroom on Poole Quay where we will study the latest weather report and based on this and the tidal predictions we will form a passage plan for the weekend. We will also discuss Radar plotting techniques and the use of AIS and the chartplotter. The following morning or maybe even that evening (depending on weather and tides) we set off across the channel where students will be involved in all aspects of the crossing and monitoring Radar etc. and produce a pilotage plan for our destination port.

After resting and a good meal ashore we will retrace our course back to Poole.
